The University of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of the world’s finest academic institutions, with 38 separate colleges and six permanent private halls.

The University belongs to several prestigious groups. These include the Coimbra Group, a network of top European institutions, and the League of European Research Institutions. University of Oxford Accommodation

The 38 colleges that comprise the University of Oxford house all first-year undergraduate students. These colleges are not only places of residence, but they also play an important role in undergraduate education.


A typical college includes a dining hall, a chapel, a library, a college bar, senior, middle (postgraduate), and junior common rooms, rooms for 200-400 undergraduates, and accommodations for the college’s president and other dons. College buildings range from medieval to modern, but the majority are made up of interconnected courtyards.

University of Oxford Location

Oxford is located in South England, approximately 90 minutes from London, and has a population of 150,000. Oxford’s buildings reflect every English architectural period from the arrival of the Saxons, notably the Radcliffe Camera from the mid-18th century.


The poet Matthew Arnold used the expression “city of dreaming spires” to describe the harmonious architecture of the University of Oxford buildings. It is mostly a student city, with much of it owned by the university, resulting in student discounts in practically every area.
