Process Flow

Step 1: Successfully complete the OET (Occupational English Test) with good grade.

Step 2: Register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Once the applicant passes the NMC self-assessment, they can take up to six months to finish the first test part. After six months, the application ends. Applicants can try the CBT twice, with at least 28 days between each try. If they fail both times, they must wait six months before reapplying. Results are emailed within 48 hours. The full exam fee is needed each time. The CBT is good for two years.

Step 3: Achieve a passing score in the CBT Test 1.

Step 4: Submit required documents to the NMC. The NMC strives to review applications within 28 days upon receiving all necessary documents.

Step 5: Obtain a Certificate of Sponsorship.

Step 6: Participate in either an in-person or virtual job interview.

Step 7: Apply for entry clearance from your home country.

Step 8: Travel to the UK and pass the OSCE exam. It’s important to note that you must take your first OSCE exam within 8 weeks of your arrival in the UK. The timeframe for passing the OSCE exam extends for two years from the date you pass the CBT exam.

Applicants need to make sure they can complete the OSCE within two years after passing the CBT.

Starting April 6, 2017, applicants have three chances (initial try, plus two re-sits) for the OSCE as part of one application.

After the first unsuccessful OSCE, they must wait at least 10 working days before retaking the exam. If unsuccessful in the second OSCE, they need to wait a minimum of three months from the second attempt before the third try.

If the applicant fails all allowed attempts, their application will close. They must submit a new application and wait at least six months before attempting the OSCE again.

OSCE results will be emailed within five working days after taking the exam.
