Admission Documents

  1. Bachelor’s Degree Copy: Include a copy of your bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) from a regionally accredited university or higher education institution. If your degree program is still in progress, submit a transcript indicating the completion of at least 150 credit points by the fifth semester.
    2. Complete Transcript of Records: This should detail all courses you have completed as part of your study program.
    3. Proof of English Proficiency: Demonstrate English language skills at the C1 level according to the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.” Specific language requirements should be referred to.
    4. Writing Sample: Provide a writing sample in English or German from your previous study program. The sample should relate to either the USA or Canada and should not exceed five pages.
    5. Write an essay in English on one of the following topics: Explore a subject pertaining to the history of social classes in the United States during the 19th or 20th century. Analyze the portrayal of social classes in American literature, media, or visual culture from the 19th or 20th century.
    6. Apply Separately to the International Office: International students must apply to the International Office at LMU in addition to the master’s program.
    7. Verify Dates and Documents: Check the LMU websites for specific application dates and required documents.
    8. Two Responses: Expect two separate responses – one from the International Office (admission letter) and another from the master’s program (acceptance letter). Enrollment at LMU requires both.
    9. German Language Proficiency: Not required for the master’s program in “American History, Culture and Society,” but basic German knowledge is advisable for administrative tasks and excellent German for optional German-taught courses.
